I have been learning a lot about Gran Canaria since I started this site in July.  I have been doing research on the internet as well as in my local public library.  With the prevalent use of the internet these days, a lot of people have forgotten about what a great source the public library can be.  I live in a really small town, so we don't actually have our own library, I have to go to the next biggest town over and use theirs.  And it is not all that large, but we do have access to a bookmobile. 

Anyway, I am a self proclaimed travel junkie, so if it has to do with travel, I am interested.  I like to learn about new places, but more than that I like to travel to them!  The Canary Islands is somewhere I have always thought of as an exotic location that I would like to visit.  I knew it was in Spain and I had visions of tropical rain forests.  Well, if you have ever been to Gran Canaria or any of the other Canary Islands, you know my vision was not exactly accurate!  Gran Canaria is dubbed "the little continent", and while there is some rainforest area on Gran Canaria, the whole island is by no means a rainforest.  As a matter of fact, the area in the south is desert, with the splendid Dunes of Maspalomas.

So, the more I know, the more I want to know.  One of the really great sites I have found on the web to help me learn about Gran Canaria is Canary Forums, a place where if you have questions, you can post and members of the forum will answer you. A lot of people that are regular members on there are residents of Gran Canaria, so they have lots of good information.

I'll be back with more information that I learn about things of interest to me, but if you have a topic you would like to know more about, leave me a comment and I will do some research and come up with an answer for you.
